Reading at last!

Our youngest son is about four and a half years old. He has had little interest in being read to until the last couple of months. We have been trying to teach him to read but it has been clear that he is just not ready. Today my wife was reading a story to him that he had not heard before. To her surprise he was able to fill in several words when she would pause and point to them. We knew that he could identify a handful of words but not to the degree that he showed today. There were a few sentences that he was able to read independently. It was such a nice surprise to see his joy at being able to read. It was as if the little light bulb in his head went on that told him that reading is good and something he can and should do. All day long he has been begging to be read to and we have been gladly complying!
