Middle of nowhere.
When we decided to move a couple of years ago there were a great many decisions that we needed to make. My in-laws own a bunch of rural property and were willing to let us build a house on it. We really liked the idea of having a home in the country but were unsure about many things. For example, my in-laws can't get high speed internet in their area. I suppose they could get satellite internet but the cost is pretty high. They also can't get cell phone service at their house. It wouldn't matter if they had a home cell booster because there just isn't reliable service in their area. These were small considerations but definitely contributed to us electing not build on their property. As much as we would like to have a home in the country the cost of building the home, digging the foundation, and installing a well just made it all too expensive. Even with free property we couldn't justify spending double on a home when the market was hitting rock bottom prices on existing homes. There may come a time when we are able to move to the middle of nowhere but for now I am happy with urban life and our affordable mortgage.
