Building the "Arrow"...

I just finished up cutting out my son's car for his upcoming Pinewood Derby. The design is entirely one that my son came up with. He tried a number of different designs before deciding upon an arrow design. The car is cut in the shape of an arrow. I have no idea how it will end up performing but I don't believe that is the point of the exercise. I know there are people out there who want to win these events so badly that they totally exclude their children from the process. The child gets the satisfaction of saying "my car won" but had no part in the process of making the car. I believe it is more important for my son to understand what it takes to make the car than it is for him to win. It would be great it we won but that is secondary to playing by the rules and working as a team.
