Getting older.

I am no longer a thirty-something-year-old guy. I am officially man of 40 years of age. This is not something that really bothers me because I don't feel like any different than I did in my 20's. This birthday is one that just leaves me feeling thankful to be here and celebrating with my family. Having been in a serious car accident this spring I am ever more mindful of how important birthdays are. Simply being here with my family is a gift and getting older means that I have been given more time with them. I think people who slide into depression about getting older aren't seeing the bigger picture. Each of us is only a mishap away from not seeing that next birthday. Each day is something I am grateful no matter how much older I get or what comes next. I am here and with my family and that is all the present I need.
