We never visit because...

If you aren't a smoker then you likely understand where I am coming from in this post. My mother has a very good "friend" who is like a grandfather to my children. They see his as a family member and love him dearly. If there is one thing that we collectively cannot stand about him is that he smokes like a chimney. He is forever wondering why we don't visit his home. I cannot bring myself to tell him that the reason is because we cannot stand the way we smell after leaving his house. To have to wash everyone's coats and belongings because they smell like smoke is just not a chore we look forward to. Even if he took up smoking an e cigarette I believe we would still smell. His furniture, carpet, walls, and linens are absolutely saturated with smoke. He doesn't see anything wrong with his behavior and says that it is his right to smoke. I would agree that it is his right and he can exercise it all he wants. I also exercise my right not to be subjected to his smoke and elect not to visit his home. He just doesn't know that I am exercising my rights.
