The End
I remember watching a promo from the hey day of Mid-south championship wrestling. A wrestler came on and at the end of the promo he gave the best definition of a finishing move I have ever heard. His name was Jake "The Snake" Roberts and the two words he used to define his finisher, the DDT, were simply "The End". Since this promo this particular finisher has been the most used, abused, re-developed, over sold, most exciting, and poorly executed, finisher in pro-wrestling. Nobody, in my humble opinion, could drop you on your head like Roberts could and if you blinked you would miss it. The only other wrestler that could even come close to Roberts execution is Raven and his Evenflow DDT. The key to the move is timing as it must come out of nowhere to get the audience to pop. It must also be sold well and that means your opponent must understand what is expected by the audience from a man, or woman, who has been dropped on their head at a high rate of speed. Here is an example of how wrestlers will take what was a simple, effective, crowd popping finisher, and turn it into pure stupidity. Sorry Jake.
