Changes in scouting...

It has been interesting to become involved in Boy Scouts because there are so many changes since I was a Boy Scout. Many of the changes are obvious like the level of parent involvement required. When I was a kid, Boy Scout meetings were something you were dropped off at the door by your mother and picked up when it was over. Today most parents stay throughout the meeting or are involved in the meeting. It is rare for a child in our troop to be left at a meeting. I think this is a great change given how society is so different. Other changes are more subtle like the variety of topics that you can earn a badge for completing. I cannot imagine boys in the 60s and 70s being encouraged to complete a badge in some of these topics. Again I think this is a good thing because boys need to have domestic skills in this day and age.
