Not getting attached.

Earlier this week we brought home 4 chicks from the hatchery. These were something my wife asked for and she seemed determined to get them. I will admit that on some levels the idea seems perfectly reasonable. There are moments when I think it doesn't make sense for us to invest time and money when eggs are so cheap. I do believe our food system in this country is broken and needs overhauled. Our safety is constantly being jeopardized by a lax safety system. Our chickens are thus far thriving and growing at an amazing rate. I am however determined not to get attached to them and intend to continue to view them as a means of producing our own food. I am hoping this will make it easier in the event that something happens to them or needs to be done to them that would fall on my shoulders. My wife made the mistake of reading to me all the various ailments and illnesses that can befall chickens...
