Phonetic Alphabet.

This evening we spent time learning how to say our ham radio call signs in the phonetic alphabet. If you are unfamiliar with ham radio and the rules by which is operates practicing this probably doesn't make much sense.  When you talk in the phonetic alphabet you are spelling out letters using whole words. For examply is I was saying the letters "T,D, and M" this might sound confusing to some people. Instead I would say something like triangle direct media. People familiar with the phonetic alphabet would know to use the first letter of each of these words to arrive at what letters I was saying.  Ham radio call signs are a combination of letters and numbers and understanding them over the radio can be difficult at times. Saying your call sign is mandatory by law and must be said so many times during a certain time frame. We hope to soon be comfortable saying our call signs phonetically and to spend a bit more time on the air.
