That's just the way the cookie crumbles. Wrestling isn't the only means of entertainment that has this problem. There's a reason a Transformers movie will make hundreds of millions of dollars while far superior films struggle to find theaters. The majority of fans for any media look for style over substance. If you're really passionate about something, you're the exact opposite, but you'll always be the minority.
I've actually been shocked that Smackdown has gone this far without interference from Vince. The show's fantastic...if you're a wrestling fan. Unfortunately, the majority can care less how well a wrestler can apply a headlock take down. The author's right: People want soap opera story lines, they want swerves, they want comedy, etc. What they don't want are 15-45 minute matches with psychology, technicality and no run-ins.
That's why ppv's have become a saving grace for big wrestling fans over the years. Sure, people can turn the televisions off still, but Vince still has your money (unless you're stealing).
